Plan Your Hill Station
Tours All Fields Compulsory |
||
The mighty Himalayas, bordering the north of
India, have given rise to a number of popular hills stations. These hill
stations were set up by the British who wished to create a piece of
England on the Indian subcontinent. They stumbled upon the hills of
Uttaranchal- a great way to escape the blistering heat of the northern
plains. They visited the hills and developed them to the standards of an
idyllic hill resort. The state of Uttaranchal thus came to possess a
number of fantastic hill stops. Mussoorie, Dehradun, Naital, Almora and
Ranikhet are some of the popular names that invite tourists to the state
in huge numbers every year.
As you step into the snow-swept land of Himachal Pradesh, you will be
astounded by the natural riches that the state is blessed with. The
British administrators saw some fabulous hill resorts in the region and
developed them into excellent hill stations that today India is truly
proud of. One of these is Shimla- the 'Queen of Hill Stations'. The
British built it as a summer capital. Dharamsala is yet another name that
is very popular with the tourists and travellers.
Moving towards the eastern part of the country, one comes across the
sprawling hill station of Darjeeling which is internationally renowned for
its tea plantations and toy train. Nestled in the Nilgris is the hill
station of Ooty which is south India's premier hill station. Jammu and
Kashmir at the northern tip of India are home to the beautiful Mughal
Gardens. There are a number of other hill station like Ladakh, Gangtok,
Manali and Mount Abu that are no less attractive and inviting than the
others.
