Dos & Don'ts
Travelling is truly part and parcel of the
human society. The tourism and travel industry is striving to create
better-than-the-best options for the visitors and the travel sphere is
growing bigger and bigger with each passing day. India is a country where
there never is a dearth of options when it comes to adventure and
entertainment.
There are, however, some points that should be borne in mind before
starting on a trip to your preferred destinations in the distinct and
diverse land of India.
Mind the Weather
Before setting out on a tour to Indian and its numerous cities and towns,
have a look at the climatic conditions of the particular region. Your
clothes should match the weather of a place. Climatic conditions vary
hugely in the north, south, east and west of India. Plan your trip
depending upon the climate.
Be Health Conscious
Do remember to take along your prescribed medications. If you are
suffering from a particular ailment, consult your doctor for some good
piece of advice. For those who are planning to embark on an adventure
tour, it all the more important to be careful about their health issues.
Taxis and Rickshaws
Do not depend much on these taxiwallahs or rickshawwallahs in terms of
getting information or anything like that. Buy your own copy of the Lonely
Planet or other reliable travel guides to help you all the way long.
Finalise the fares before getting into a taxi or a rickshaw.
Lesbians & Gays
Know your limits as India still abides by its age-old traditions and
cultures. Don't try to kiss in public places as it may not be acceptable
by the Indians. However, you can move arm in arm at least.
Say NO to Street Food
Do not try to consume street food as it may not be hygienic, leading you
to problems. Always buy fresh fruit and vegetable. And remember to have a
good bargain.
Tipping
Tipping has now become a tradition in India. For the waiters, guides and
car drivers, you can leave anything between Rs 50 and Rs 200.
Beggars in Need
You will come across a horde of beggars as you pass through the roads and
avenues of the cities of India. Give money only to those who you think are
truly in need. Be careful not be mobbed by them.
Don't Bring Valuables
While on trip abroad, always remember not to take along valuables that
you would hate losing. Items like jewellery, family photographs and other
objects of sentimental value should better be left behind.
